Report of the GREWUS interACTIVE HAPTICS Conference 2023

On June 14 and 15, 2023, we hosted our interACTIVE HAPTICS Conference at the stylish Gastwerk Design Hotel in Hamburg. The #iAHC2023 brings together experts from the fields of human-machine interface (HMI), automotive, gaming and science. Our aim was to present the latest developments in haptics, strengthen networks and promote synergies between different industries.

EVENT TOPICS
• The future of haptics: where is the technology heading?
• Haptics in industry: possible applications in automotive, gaming and household appliances.
• Scientific aspects of haptics: optimization on a psychological and technical level.
• Haptic HMI solutions: Practical integration into user interfaces.
• Technological trends and engineering: New developments in hardware and software for haptics.

The iAHC began on June 13 with a relaxed welcome evening on the Alsterlagune Hamburg restaurant boat. On the following two days, we offered our guests exciting presentations, interactive workshops and first-class networking opportunities.

LECTURES
• Elisa Santella (Grewus): “Haptic Trends in Automotive HMI” and “Gamification in Automotive”
• Philipp Sachs (XeelTech): “Collaborative innovations for immersive HMI solutions”
• Dr. Wolfgang Clemens (PolyIC): “Smart integrated touch solutions for HMI surfaces
in Automotive and Home Appliances”
• Dr. Iyad Nasrallah (TouchNetix): “Touch, Force, Hover, Proximity, Haptics ... aXiom!”
• Eric Vezzoli (Razer Inc.): “Unlocking the Power of Haptic Technology in Gaming:
Industry Leaders Explore Best Practices and ROI”
• Stefan Breitschaft (BMW Group): “From sensation to experience:
A psychological turn in Haptic design”
• Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten A. Kern: “Vibrotactile Actuators - how to really quantify
their performance for a more general applicability”
• Daniel Shor (Innovobot): “Haptics Language and Design Rules”
• Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Philipp Beckerle (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg): “Human perception of Haptics”
• Ralf Sandomeer (GREWUS): “The recipe of haptic integration”
• Morten Rothmann (Hamsø Engineering): “Criteria for chip selection for driving and sensing”
• Anouschka Esselun (GREWUS): “Measuring of active Haptic Feedback”

HANDS-ON WORKSHOPS AND TRADE FAIR AREA
We are particularly proud of our interactive workshop, in which participants were able to test modern haptic actuators and develop solutions for real challenges using design thinking methods. In addition, leading companies such as Kurz/PolyIC, XeelTech, TouchNetix and Forvia Hella presented their latest innovations at our trade fair stands.

NOT JUST WORK
As a highlight, we organized a dinner together in the evening in Hamburg's historic warehouse district with an exclusive tour of the world-famous miniature wonderland. We and our guests will certainly remember this experience for a long time.

CONCLUSION
For us at iAHC 2023, it was a complete success. Together with our guests and speakers, we impressively demonstrated how haptic technologies are evolving in various industries. The perfect mix of specialist presentations, interactive workshops and valuable networking made this event unique. We are already looking forward to #iAHC2024.
